Mitzvot To Be Observed During Purim Day
Megillah Reading:
Megillat Esther is read twice on Purim, once at night and once during the day. In order to properly fulfill the mitzvah of Megillah, it is necessary to hear every word during the reading. For this reason it is imperative that people not talk or text during the Megillah reading.
Mishloach Manot:
Giving a package of at least two different types of prepared foods to at least one friend. (Males to males and females to females).
Matanot La’evionim:
Giving food (or charity) to at least 2 poor people, to help them fulfill their obligation of Seudat Purim. This should be done on Purim day.
(Rabbi Benchimol has a fund to assist poor people in the US and Israel which will be given on Purim Day for the mitzvah of Matanot La’evionim. If you are interested in giving to this fund, please speak to the Rabbi.)
Seudat Purim:
Eating a festive meal during the day (with Motzi). The meal must begin at latest before sundown.
Shtiat Yayin:
Drinking wine.
Al Hanissim:
Prayer inserted in the Amida and Birkat Hamazon starting Saturday night with Arvit until Sunday afternoon with Minha.
